When we are tired, we are attacked by ideas we conquered long ago.—Friedrich Nietzsche
About Mengnan
I am a bilingual (English& Mandarin) licensed therapist, LCSW, in New York and Florida working with adults who appear high-functioning yet feel emotionally overwhelmed, unsettled, or stuck beneath the surface. Many are navigating identity conflicts, difficult relationships, chronic stress, or major life transitions, and are seeking a more grounded and authentic way of living.
A significant number of my clients have lived between cultures, expectations, or roles—including international students, immigrants, and Asian professionals—which can intensify feelings of self-doubt, emotional exhaustion, or not fully belonging anywhere.
I received systematic clinical training in working with emotional dysregulation, trauma, and Borderline Personality Disorder and related traits. In addition, I am trained in an European school of existential analysis, which informs my focus on capability, feasibility, value, authenticity, self-worth, and meaning. This framework allows me to explore not only symptom relief, but how a person relates to their life, choices, and inner values in a deeper and more sustainable way.
A little more about me
I came to the field of psychotherapy through an unconventional path. My undergraduate training was in Human Resource Management, where I first became deeply interested in how people make meaning of work, identity, and relationships within complex systems. Over time, this curiosity grew into a calling to understand the inner world more fully, leading me to retrain as a therapist and integrate psychological depth with real-world experience.
Outside of my clinical work, I find grounding and inspiration in music and photography. Both practices teach me how to listen closely, notice subtle emotional shifts, and stay present with what unfolds in the moment—skills that deeply inform my work as a therapist. All of the photographs featured on this website were taken by me, reflecting my way of seeing: attentive, reflective, and attuned to the quiet stories that often go unnoticed. I believe therapy, much like art, is a space where meaning emerges through careful attention, honesty, and human connection.
